Evaluative Framework

CEARCH attempts to identify a cause’s marginal expected value (MEV). That is, for a given amount of resources directed towards solving a problem, what – in expectation – is the amount of welfare that will result?

Research Process

  • Our research process involves a mix of desktop research, expert interviews & commissioning of surveys and quantitative modelling.
  • Potential causes are investigated at successive shallow, intermediate, and deep research stages, with causes passing to the next stage if and only if they meet a high threshold of cost-effectiveness.
  • Shallow, intermediate and deep research rounds typically last around 1/2/3 weeks respectively.
